I provided a biblical history of the Nephilim, the offspring of angels and humans, in a separate article. In this article, I will discuss the prospect for us to see Nephilim during the end times and what impact they may have if they are to appear.
Fallen Angels Expelled from Heaven to Earth
The Archangel Michael and his angels will be at war against Satan and his angels in the future. Satan and his angels will lose the war, will be permanently cast out of Heaven, and will be forced onto the earth:
“(7) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12:7-9)
The Days of Noah
Christ warned His disciples that the time leading to His Second Coming would be like the “days of Noah” or “days of Noe”:
“(37) But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (38) For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,” (Matthew 24:37-38)
“(26) And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. (27) They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.” (Luke 17:26-27)
Some theologians limit the similarities between this upcoming period and the days of Noah to people “eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage”. However, others believe that Christ taught that this period would be exactly like the days of Noah, which included fallen angels mating with human women.
Iron vs Clay
Some people believe that the warning that Christ gave is not the only indication that fallen angels will interact with mankind again at a high-level. Daniel 2:41-43 is one of the most intriguing passages in the entire Bible because it describes the nature of Antichrist’s kingdom before Christ establishes His reign on Earth.
“(41) And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. (42) And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. (43) And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” (Daniel 2:41-43)
The traditional interpretation of Daniel 2:41-43 is that it is a passage that describes how the various kingdoms of the Antichrist’s empire will not get along. Others believe Daniel 2:41-43 indicates that the Antichrist’s empire will have some connection to areas that were formerly part of the Roman Empire and areas outside of the Roman Empire. A third, more speculative explanation focuses on the phrase “they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men”. Who are “they” and why are “they” distinguished from “men”?
Proponents of the third explanation argue “they” represent non-human entities since Daniel differentiated “they” from the seed of men:
“And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” (Daniel 2:43)
Proponents also argue that iron represents non-human entities while clay represents humankind since Isaiah 64:8 depicts humankind as clay:
“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)
Will We See New Nephilim?
Regardless of how Daniel 2:41-43 is interpreted, I would not be surprised if many of the fallen angels cast to Earth at that future time will interact with humans and perhaps even marry humans. I do not know if there will again be interbreeding with humans and fallen angels to create Nephilim, but I do not expect it to have any major consequence on end time events if there is. New Nephilim would only be infants and would not have a chance to develop into the men of renown like in the days of Noah before Christ asserts control on the earth. The interaction between humans and fallen angels will not last very long as “iron does not mix with clay”.
