Matthew 24:36 and the Timing of the Rapture

Matthew 24:36 is often used by Pre-Tribulation Rapture supporters to defend their position and to dismiss all other Rapture positions. Matthew 24:36 states:

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

I do not believe Matthew 24:36 should be used by Pre-Tribulation Rapture supporters to dismiss all other Rapture positions besides their own view. In this video, I explain how Matthew 24:36 should be viewed when trying to understand the timing of the Rapture.

Matthew 24:36 Video Transcript

Hey, Wayne here with another video. In this video I want to talk about, Matthew 24:36, which states that no man knows the day or hour of Christ coming.

So, this verse has been used a lot in different ways, basically used by Pre-Tribulation Rapture supporters to dismiss all other Rapture positions because they imply that all the other Rapture positions would place a date and hour on Christ’s Coming.

And my rebuttal to this is that it is true. We cannot know the day and hour of Christ coming. I cannot tell you. It would be insane for me to tell you that Christ will come on January 14, 2094 at 4:34 p.m. That would be insane. We cannot know that with that kind of precision.

However, I believe we can know the general time frame of Christ coming. And the reason why I believe we can know the general time frame of Christ coming is that Christ spent a lot of time telling us what to expect before He arrives.

His disciples asked Him, “What is the sign of your coming and the end of the world?”

And Christ gave them a long answer and a lot of the answer is recorded in the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24, Luke 21 and Mark 13. And Christ talked about wars, rumors of wars. He talked about the establishment, the abomination of desolation. He talked about false Christs, false prophets arising. He talked about signs in the heavens, the sun, moon and the stars.

He talked about that. He even mentioned that these things-the signs in the heavens would come after the end of the tribulation of those days.

So, Christ gets very specific about the general time frame of His coming. So, I believe we can have a general idea of when Christ is going to come. I just can’t tell you right now in 2020 when this video is being recorded that He’s going to come in 46 years, 4 hours, and 94 minutes from now and 22 seconds.

I can’t tell you that, but I can give you a general time frame of when He’s going to come because He gave us a general time frame when He’s going to come. And I can base that time frame based on different events like the end of the tribulation, things like that.

So, I don’t think you can use Matthew 24:36 to dismiss the other Rapture positions like Post-Trib, Pre-Wrath, Mid-Trib. Those Rapture positions should not be dismissed just because Christ said that no man can know the day and hour of His coming.

Instead we can know the general time frame of His coming. So with that, I hope you found this video insightful. Take care. I’ll see you again soon.
