Brexit: A Couple of Thoughts About Its Prophecy Significance

I’m sure just about everyone who is following the news right now knows that Britain voted to leave the European Union. In this article, I provide a couple of quick thoughts about the significance of Brexit, including its potential Bible prophecy significance.

I think it is important to recognize that while Brexit is a significant historical moment for Britain it does not change where the world will eventually end up. The Bible indicates that there will be a one-world government, economy, etc. under the control of the Antichrist. For instance, Daniel 7 speaks of a future time when the Antichrist will have an empire that dominates the earth and a time when he will be able to change laws and ruthlessly persecute his enemies:

“(23) Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. (24) And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he [Antichrist] shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. (25) And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” (Daniel 7:23-25)

That is the finish line, but there are many potential ways to get to that finish line…

Brexit, however, does introduce a significant level of political, economic, and financial instability to Britain, to Europe and to the rest of the world. It is going to be very interesting to see how European leaders ultimately respond to Brexit and whether other European countries will choose to hold their own referendums about remaining in the European Union. It is also going to be interesting to see if Brexit triggers a long-term, negative economic and financial chain reaction in Europe and in the rest of the world.

I try to not overreact to the significance of events as they are happening because I think there is a tendency for us to do that as we live in the moment. However, Brexit appears to be an event of major significance because it is an event that could potentially lead to a further series of events that alters the economic, financial, and political landscape of Britain, Europe, and the rest of the world.

  1. Btw, I have nothing against Italians. I love Italians, Italy, and definitely love Italian food. I was merely trying to point out that I think there’s a chance that he could ultimately be affiliated with the Vatican.

  2. Hey, Wayne, just curious: have you ever wondered why ISIS addresses the US and west in general as Rome in their letters?

It is truly a fascinating question when you start thinking about it.

Perhaps Rome never actually ended, but rather, just as Rome dispersed the Jews to the nations 2,000 years ago, God likewise scattered Rome in the form of fragments (France, Spain, Germany, England, America, Russia, etc.) all over the world. It could be that America is nothing more than an extension of Rome when you get right down to it.

So, if this is true, just as the Jews will return to Israel, Rome will return to its original form. This could be what the UN is all about, in fact. (If you look at the UN flag over against the Roman flag, while the colors are different, there are indeed some remarkable similarities.)

If you carefully watch a certain individual who wears a white robe, draws a mean crowd, and has been energetically traveling all over the world making speeches from historically significant locations, you might become convinced that he is on a mission to bring Rome back to its original state.

And, who knows, perhaps the EU will break apart in the process, and if so, maybe that’s what Brexit was all about.

Then again, maybe I’m mad. Hard to say just yet. 🙂

  3. I was about to use the word “plethora” when it comes to reading the great number of new (or revived) ideas as it pertains to the “End Times” prophecy. “plethora: morbid condition marked by excess of red corpuscles …” Close. Only to the Bible Believer, it is NOT morbidity but a release of new hope that the day of our Home-calling is vitally near at hand. Read all the reports and you’re sure to get some fresh, helpful interpretations and otherwise. Be wise in your deliberations; use your God-given discernment, backed by Scripture. Alan the Aussie

  4. This could be the trigger to negotiations that may enforce a permanent structure of ten permanent inner circle members. These could be fixed while others can come and go as they please without affecting the main structure of the Union as it is now quite certain that other members will now leave the union as a precedent has now been set.

  5. I had heard that because it was only won by 51% of the vote that they were going to have a second referendum? Have you heard anything to that effect? If so it might be overturned. Of course the damage is done.

    • A petition was started last November asking the government to consider holding a second referendum if the vote (either way) did not reach 60% on a turnout below 75%. This petition was brought to people’s attention today and many people have begun to sign it online. This petition’s existence does not mean that they would hold a second referendum.

      • Looks like Scotland is going to try for independence again. Maybe this time it will pass. And I see Texas has been inspired to try to secede again. Personally I’d like upper NY State (where I live) to secede from NYC so we can quit supporting them and support all the upstate farmers instead.

Just dawned on me today. The Lord is going to return at the Last Trump. Wonder if he meant Donald? lol

          • You know I laughed when I read what you said, then suddenly I realized that it was not beyond the realm of possibility. Sad isn’t it, to think it is even possible?
