I recently received questions concerning the Mark of the Beast. I have written about the Mark of the Beast extensively in the past, including an article about how people can know when the Mark of the Beast is about to be put in place and an article addressing whether the Mark of the Beast will be forced upon people. I will devote another article to the Mark of the Beast since I’m still getting questions about the topic.

In this article, I will address the question of whether the Mark of the Beast will be given to people without them knowing it. The fear that some people have is that the Mark of the Beast system is already present and being implemented without any formal announcement.

I do not believe that the Mark of the Beast system will be implemented without the public having fair warning about its arrival and implementation (it probably won’t be called the “Mark of the Beast” by the authorities seeking to implement it, but its true nature should be apparent for anyone who has read Revelation 13). Here are a few reasons why I believe the Mark of the Beast system will not be implemented without the public knowing about it first.

First, we have a general idea of when the Mark of the Beast system will be implemented. The Mark of the Beast system’s implementation is connected to the rise of the False Prophet and the unveiling of the Antichrist’s true identity to the world at the midway point of the seventieth week of Daniel (or the seven year period that people commonly refer to as the “tribulation”). For more about the timing of the Mark of the Beast’s arrival, please see my article titled: “How Can We Tell When Mark of the Beast System Is About to Be Put In Place“. The fact that we can have a general idea about the timing of the Mark of the Beast’s arrival suggests that its arrival is not supposed to be something that people who pay attention to Bible prophecy and world events will be blindsided by.

As I previously mentioned in previous articles, the Mark of the Beast’s primary purpose is to distinguish between followers of the Antichrist and opponents of the Antichrist. People with the Mark have declared themselves to be followers of the Antichrist and people without the Mark are opponents of the Antichrist. Therefore, it would behoove the authorities to not force people against their will to accept the Mark otherwise it would be more difficult for them to identify who is an opponent of Antichrist (it actually may be more expedient for the authorities to just kill those who refuse to accept the Mark of the Beast). The existence of an “option” to accept the Mark or reject the Mark implies that people will be made aware of the Mark of the Beast’s existence and the consequences of not accepting it.

We can see that an option to accept or to not accept the Mark of the Beast will exist by the fact that not everyone will accept the Mark of the Beast. Revelation 20:4 recognizes a group of beheaded individuals who are without the Mark.

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years” (Rev 20:4)

The fact that people had the choice to say “no” to the option of accepting the Mark of the Beast means that the Mark was not forced upon them nor implemented in a way that they were unaware that they rejected the Mark. The people cited in Revelation 20:4 rejected the Mark of the Beast because they stood strongly for their beliefs.

Finally, consider the role that the False Prophet will play in the implementation of the Mark of the Beast system. The False Prophet will gain a huge following after he performs miracles that will astonish the world.

“(12) And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. (13) And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, (14) And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. (15) And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” (Rev 13:12-15)

The False Prophet will then use his huge following/popularity to persuade the people of Earth to worship the Antichrist and to accept the Mark of the Beast.

“(12) And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed…And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:” (Rev 13:16)

I expect the False Prophet to launch a major public campaign to promote the need for people to accept the Mark of the Beast given that the False Prophet will be someone that people will heed. The False Prophet’s presence in promoting the Mark of the Beast will be key for the rapid adoption of the Mark since people may be less persuaded to accept the Mark if a low-level underling of Antichrist tried to persuade people to accept the Mark. As a result, I do not believe that the Mark of the Beast will be something that people will be unaware about as its being implemented or something that people will accept unknowingly. The False Prophet will promote the Mark of the Beast system using his ability to persuade the masses, and the promotional campaign will be a major success for Antichrist and the False Prophet as the acceptance of the Mark of the Beast will be widespread across society:

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:” (Rev 13:16)

In sum, I do not believe we need to worry about the Mark of the Beast being implemented without warning. Therefore, you can relax if you have worried that the Mark of the Beast has already arrived or will arrive without you knowing about it. I also do not believe people who are aware about the dangers of the Mark of the Beast system need to worry about accepting the Mark of the Beast unknowingly because they should be able to identify the Mark of the Beast system for what it truly is when it arrives and have the option to reject it when it arrives (although it may cost them their lives in the process).
